I know you’re probably really excited to just dive in, buy all the things, and start homeschooling, but I want you to take a moment to deschool yourself first.

What is deschooling? Deschooling is the process of breaking free from the institutionalized mindset that lingers from traditional schooling.

You need to let go of your old “school” mindset and develop something far richer and deeper. Chances are you went to public school, so even if your child has never set foot inside a school building, deschooling is still an important first step in your homeschooling journey. This is where you start!

PRO TIP: Prepare Ahead!

If you can’t start homeschooling right now but you know you want to in the future, the time to start planning is NOW. Prepare ahead of time by planning your exit from the matrix. One of the top reasons I see why parents are afraid to start homeschooling is because they are afraid they can’t live without two incomes. It’s true that our society, not to mention this horrendous economy, has made it almost impossible for families to survive on one income, but don’t let that stop you from homeschooling. There are WAY more opportunities for women to work from home and make a substantial income without setting foot outside their home. Homeschooling doesn’t have to be expensive and you CAN make money from home easier than you think. Start planning your exit now and seeking out all your options for an alternative source of income, or affordable childcare during the day so you can homeschool your kids and still keep your current job. REMEMBER: Homeschooling requires sacrifice, not privilege.
